The J. B. Short Institute for Ethics, Honesty and Professional Competence — JBSI — was founded on a simple but powerful conviction: that Ghana cannot reach its full potential without truth, integrity and disciplined professional competence as the bedrock of our national character.
Named in honour of a distinguished Ghanaian Legal Professional, JBSI exists to bring the practical, lived meaning of ethics into every home, school, workplace and public institution in the country. We represent a national movement — grounded in Ghanaian culture, history and identity — equipping citizens and leaders alike with the knowledge, language and courage to choose honesty, every time.

What is JBSI and who is it for?
The J. B. Short Institute for Ethics, Honesty and Professional Competence is a Ghanaian national institution dedicated to ethics education, advocacy and training. It is for every Ghanaian — students, professionals, leaders, community members and organisations — who believes that a more honest and competent society is possible and worth working towards.
How are donations used?
All donated funds are directed to our programmes, events, training and operations. Every cedi is accounted for in our end-of-year financial statement. Donors may also choose to sponsor specific items — from transport and publicity to salaries and building upkeep — so you always know exactly where your support is going.
How can my organisation partner with JBSI?
We welcome institutional partnerships with businesses, universities, religious bodies, traditional authorities and civil society organisations. Partners can co-host events, sponsor programmes, provide services or second staff to support our work. Contact us to discuss a partnership arrangement.
What kinds of training and certification does JBSI offer?
We offer training in ethics, professional leadership and organisational competence, as well as ethical behaviour certification for individuals and organisations. Our courses are grounded in both international research and Ghanaian cultural context, and will be translated into multiple local languages.
